A new antibiotic for the world

Teixobactin is an antibiotic which is active against Gram-positive bacteria that have developed resistance to available approved antibiotics.

The discovery was reported in January 2015. The antibiotic was found in a screen of soil bacteria grown in a diffusion culture chamber that exposed previously unculturable bacteria to ambient nutrients and growth factors from the soil of origin.
