Somdev Devvarman became the first Indian to reach the men’s singles final in the history of the Asian Games before winning the men’s doubles gold with Sanam Singh but Sania Mirza and Vishnu Vardhan had to be content with a silver in the tennis competitions.

Preeja and Sudha clinch golds for India from track

Preeja Sreedharan and Sudha Singh were the gold winners in the women’s 10,000m and 3000m steeplechase. Preeja finished the race by 31 minutes, 50.47 seconds to reach two minutes below the Asian and world record of China’s Wang Junxia. Kavita, finished second with her personal best of 31:51.44, to add a silver to Indian tally.

Another thrilling moment to Indians came when Sudha Singh outpaced Jin Yuan of China to win a Gold in the 3000m women’s steeplechase. 24-year-old Sudha made her record gain running ten meters ahead of her Chinese rival.
