Film artist of Ireland Duncan Campbell on 1 December 2014 won Turner Prize 2014 for a video called It For Others. The video reflects on African art and includes a dance sequence inspired by Karl Marx. He received the prize of 25000 pounds at Tate Britain in London.
He became the fifth winner of Tuner Prize 2014 since 1996 and the fourth graduate of our Master of Fine Art programme from the Glasgow School of Art to have won the prize in the last 10 years.
In 2013, Laure Prouvost won the prize for an installation named Wantee and some of the previous winners of the Turner Prize include Damien Hirst and Antony Gormley.
About Turner Prize
• Turner Prize was established in 1984 to promote discussion of new developments in contemporary British art.
• The prize fund is 40000 pounds with 25000 pounds going to the winner and 5000 pounds each for the other shortlisted artists.
About Duncan Campbell
• Duncan was born in 1972 and he studied at the University of Ulster, Belfast, before completing a Master of Fine Art programme at Glasgow School of Art in 1998.
• His films bring together archive footage, photographs, interviews, animation and re-enactment.
• His recent solo exhibitions include The Common Guild, Glasgow (2014); Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh (2012); Belfast Exposed, Belfast; Arbeit, Hotel, London (2011).
