The WikiLeaks and News
WikiLeaks is a not-for-profit media organisation. According to them it’s goal is to bring important news and information to the public. They provide an innovative, secure and anonymous way for sources to leak information to their journalists . The organisation was officially launched in 2007 and its founder is Julian Assange
The organization has described itself as having been founded by Chinese dissidents, as well as journalists, mathematicians, and start-up company technologists from the U.S., Taiwan, Europe, Australia, and South Africa. Newspaper articles and The New Yorker magazine (7 June 2010) describe Julian Assange, an Australian journalist and Internet activist, as its director.
WikiLeaks has won a number of awards, including the 2008 Economist magazine New Media Award. In June 2009, WikiLeaks and Julian Assange won Amnesty International’s UK Media Award (in the category “New Media”) for the 2008 publication of “Kenya: The Cry of Blood – Extra Judicial Killings and Disappearances”, a report by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights about police killings in Kenya. In May 2010, the New York Daily News listed WikiLeaks first in a ranking of “websites that could totally change the news”

On Sunday 28th Novembre 2010, Wikileaks began publishing 251,287 leaked United States embassy cables, the largest set of confidential documents ever to be released into the public domain. The documents will give people around the world an unprecedented insight into the US Government’s foreign activities.

This Wikileaks thing is troubling. Every nation has the right to keep it’s secrets. This Julian guy clearly has a vendetta against the U.S.. He’s an Austrailian right? Would he like to see all of that country’s secrets revealed out in the open? There is no state in the world that doesn’t have state secrets. What about national defence? One thing that is being overlooked is that sometimes such secrets help to avoid war. Did Assange ever think of that? No….he’s looking to embarass the United States and make a name for himself. I believe his 15 minutes of fame will be over soon enough.
