largest wetland of India

Vembanad Lake also known as Vembanad Kayal or Vembanad Kol wetland is the largest wetland in India. This wetland was included in the list of wetlands of international importance, as defined by the Ramsar Convention for the conservation and sustainable utilization of wetlands on 19/8/02. An ideal habitat for shrimps and home to more than 20,000 waterfowls in India, the Vembanad Lake covers an area of 1,51250 Hectare.

  • Wular Lake, Jammu & Kashmir : 18900 Hectare
