After 7 years, Uruguay and Paraguay will face again in the Copa America. Now, in a confrontation that promises to be the most important in history. It is the first time that the duel takes place in a final of the competition. The closest thing was the struggle for the final phase of the Copa America in 1989, played in Brazil. That year, the teams played the first round of the square end, with Uruguayan win by 3-0.

In fact, since 1947 (64 years ago) Paraguay has not won Uruguay in the Copa America. In all, 27 games between two teams with 13 wins of the Uruguayans, Paraguayans has six wins and five draws. The top scorer of the match is the Uruguayan Héctor Castro, with four goals, all scored in the victory by 6-1, in 1926.

However, the Paraguayans have a curiosity to their advantage: both times that Paraguay won the Copa America, duels were drawn against Uruguay. In 1953, the duel ended in 2-2. In 1979, the two games between the teams ended in 0-0 and 2-2. This year, the country reached the final tying all their games, and can become the first champion of the competition without winning.

In the final showdown between the teams, valid in the quarter-finals of the 2004 edition, Uruguay won by 3-1. That year, players of the Celeste, like Paolo Montero, Gustavo Varela, Cristian Rodriguez, Diego Forlan and Dario Silva played. For Paraguay, played Justo Villar, Carlos Gamarra, Aureliano Torres, Edgar Barreto and Haedo Valdez.
