The 42nd Amendment added the words &#8220;Secular and Socialist&#8221; and now the preamble reads as follows.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We the People of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic and to secure to all its citizens :<\/p>\n<p>Justice; social, economic and political;<br \/>\nLiberty; of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;<br \/>\nEquality; of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all;<br \/>\nFraternity; assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the nation;<\/p>\n<p>In our Constituent Assembly, November 26, 1949, do hereby adopt, enact and give to ourselves this constitution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>====================== The Preamble ======================= The draft of the Preamble was prepared by Jawaharlal Nehru and is based on the American model.
