Our  goal in this celebration is to educate the worldwide public about the  benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in government, at  home, and in business &#8212; in short, everywhere! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span>It is <\/span><\/strong><span><strong>being celebrated\u00a0\u00a0 on the 3rd Saturday of\u00a0 September every year<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The non-profit organization Software  Freedom International coordinates SFD at a global level, providing  support, giveaways and a point of collaboration, but volunteer teams  around the world organize the local SFD events to impact their own  communities.<\/p>\n<h3>Objectives<\/h3>\n<p><span>1<\/span>. to celebrate software  freedom and the people behind it<\/p>\n<p><span>2. <\/span>to  foster a general understanding of software freedom, and encourage  adoption of free software and open standards<\/p>\n<p><span>3. <\/span>to create more equal access to  opportunities through the use of participatory technologies<\/p>\n<p><span>4<\/span>. to promote constructive dialogue on  responsibilities and rights in the information society<\/p>\n<p><span>5.<\/span> to be inclusive of organizations and  individuals that share our Vision<\/p>\n<p><span>6<\/span> .to  be pragmatic, transparent, and responsible as an organisation<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Software Freedom Day?
