According to me Social Networking sites are beneficial to our way of life because it increases the communication between friends and family as well as establishes new relationships based on mutual experiences and interests. When an individual joins a social networking site such as Facebook or MySpace they are more than likely looking to connect with friends and family. That connection increases positive relationships among those established relationships. Pictures and videos are shared between the connected group which is a positive action. Also, the ability to build new relationships with people who share common friends and interests is another added benefit. Many social networking sites have interest groups on a wide range of topics and people can join those groups to discuss the subject with like minded people. The Strongest feature of social networking site is that each and every person can share there view’s without any fear because these site’s didn’t differentiate between poor people and rich people view’s. That’s why these sites play good role in the society.

We employ these new advances in Electronic technology as a medium to access the social networking sites & to keep in touch with our loved ones. The world wide web is replete with such sites for eg Facebook , google+ , orkut, hi 5 & the list goes on. However like any other invention they have their own set of advantages & disadvantages.
ADVANTAGES of social networking sites:-
1) People can keep in touch with their friends & are constantly aware of their whereabouts.
2) They have also become a new medium of knowledge sharing. You can find several study groups formed on such networking sites. eg- groups for UPSC preparation, Cat preparation etc. All this e-learning in a funny way with your friends as well as other unknown aspirants is a good alternative to boring coaching classes & you can also save the time wasted in commuting to the coaching class.
3)Lately these sites have become a medium of creating a mass uprising. The recent protests in DELHI by the Indian youth for speeding up the adjudication process in the cases of rape, have been organized by the use of social networking sites only.The interesting thing about these uprisings is that there is no leader involved & these protests were completely apolitical.
4) Now if u want any slightest detail about any job profile or something which you can’t find easily searching on the Internet then u can do it very easily by contacting someone who is already in that profession. You can send him a message directly regarding your queries & get the right information. A real life example of the top most authority in direct contact with the aspirants can be seen on TWITTER website. On twitter, the chairman of SSC (a recruitment organization of govt. of India) directly replies to the queries of all the aspirants. Thus the candidates need not roam around govt offices or call on the official number for getting their queries solved.

DISADVANTAGES of social networking sites:-
1) Excessive information sharing has impacted the privacy of individuals.
RIGHT TO PRIVACY is a right forming part of right to life enshrined under Art. 21. Any hacker can hack your social account & can use it to spread antisocial & unethical messages.
2) These sites have also become the medium of sharing indecent & malicious content . The recent amendments in the “Indecent representation of women Act” is due to rampant misuse of the networking & file sharing websites.Now the act encompasses the electronic media also & the ambit has been increased to handheld devices & other devices that store images , movie clips etc.
3) The sites have become the tools to spread rumours & false information for disrupting normal life & creating insecurity in the minds of Indian citizens. The recent example is when there were mass messages being circulated that NORTH INDIANS will be targeted in various parts of the country. All these messages created panic & insecurity in the minds of north Indians & there were mass departures from railway stations. All this hampered the normal life of citizens also. Bangalore railway station experienced the greatest logjam.
4)Some people have become extremely addicted to such sites & they are constantly wasting their time on such websites posting worthless comments & photos. Thus social networking sites have also become a medium of Hypocrisy & showoff. The ever increasing materialistic inclination is constantly manifested on such websites. Most of the people seem to be involved in a worthless race of acquiring money & then later show off their life of greed on such websites. All this sends a wrong message to the citizens.
Also since people are shifting to sedentary lifestyle of constantly being in front of a PC , They are wreaking a great havoc on their health.
Hence in a nutshell , social networking sites have their own set of ramifications. It is upon us whether to utilize such sites for noble purposes & self betterment or waste our time & indulge in malicious activities using them
